Identification Of The Necessary Resources

Identifying the resources necessary to carry out an activity is a determinant exercise in its feasibility.

We can distinguish Material resources (raw materials, materials and furniture), Human resources (man power and competencies), and Financial resources (money for the start off and functioning).

In fact, the answer to the following questions has to be found:
1 Raw materials and material: what do we need, what quantity? Where and how can we find them? Are they accessible?
2 Transport: What type of transport do we need? When and how can it be organised?
3 Competencies: what do we need to know? Is training necessary? How can it be organised? How much time will it take?
4 Furniture: what do we need (electricity, water, others)?
5 Man power: is it necessary to employ wage earners? Do the need training?

How to obtain this information

We have to seek information on resources in the same manner as we do on markets. The table below gives a model of list which will be useful in finding which resources are necessary, and where to have them.

Filling this table will make it possible to answer the following question: Is it possible to obtain the totality of the necessary resources?

How to mobilise the resources
The resources can come from the promoter(s) (resources proper), from a loan or a donation (money lenders, bank, tontine,…) or be mobilised in the frame of a partnership with a different promoter.

Resources proper
All promoters must prepare themselves to bring their part of resources for the unmooring of the enterprise. It can be in material form or of raw materials or even in form of the locals which shall host the enterprise. It is often denominated personal assets. It shows the engagement of the promoter.

Financial resources
They are largely treated in the Financial part.

Partnership
Here it means to agree with another promoter so that the exercise of the activity is beneficial to the two parties. In the case of the example cited higher above, the promoter may associate with another promoter who will manufacture storing bags to contain the jewellery, in a way that the calculation of the cost price and the determination of the selling price will permit to sell the two articles at the same time. Partnership is sometimes used in the promotion frame.

The choice of a partner has to be done with the greatest attention. The partnership with any other entity has to be governed by written agreements. You should be able to answer the following questions:
1 )What do I gain in this partnership?
2 )Does it permit me to better sell my products?
3 )Am I at ease with my partner?
4 )Is this partnership transparent?
A partnership has to be regularly evaluated and be stopped in conformity with the texts if it is not satisfactory.
